Such a subtle trait⦠could be lurking in your heart and you wouldnāt quite know. Why does it take you so long to go to God in prayer? Why canāt you seem to be confident in Godās word? We tell ourselves we need to be practical and logical, when itās only an excuse to not hold on too strongly to Godās word for fear of being disappointed.
āBut when he saw the wind, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and took hold of him, and saith unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?ā
Matthew 14:30-31 ASV
When weāve made mistakes, been tempted or hurt others, we wonder if God still loves us. When we go through hard times and experience things that hurt us or make us feel afraid, we doubt Godās goodness and love for us. But the truth is that nothing can separate us from His love.
Can anything ever separate us from Christās love?ā – Romans 8:35 NLT
Paul asked the big question: āCan anything ever separate us from Christās love?ā When we donāt know why God loves us in the first place, itās easy to doubt His love at times. When we feel like weāre unlovable, that weāre too messed up or too broken for anyone to love us, we can question Godās love for us.
When weāve live in fear for so long⦠the least situation has a way of triggering doubts in us. Wherever you go, you take your mentality with you. After four hundred years as captives in Egypt, the Israelites needed to adjust to their new freedom and learn to step into unfamiliar situations.
Consequently when they approached the Promised Land and their leader sent twelve spies in to check it out, ten came back saying, āThe inhabitants of the land are giants. We are like grasshoppers compared to them.ā But two of the spies, Joshua and Caleb, knew God was with them, so they reported, āThe inhabitants of the land are like grasshoppers to us. We are well able to overcome themā (see v. 30).
Joshua and Caleb developed the capacity to see things from Godās vantage point, and it spelled the difference between success and failure. When you see every situation from a higher viewpoint, through Godās eyes, you learn to āmount up with wingsā like an eagle (Isaiah 40:31 KJV). You stop looking at the devilās picture of defeat and focus on Godās portrait of success.
Start speaking what you desire ā not what you dread (see Psalm 107:2). Speak your expectations ā not your fears. This isnāt mind-over-matter or pop psychology. Itās standing on Godās Word declaring, āI am what God says I amā¦I have what God says I haveā¦and I can do what God says I can do!ā (Philippians 4:13).
If Only Peter had not looked at the wind but kept His focus on God He would have continued to walk on that water. Donāt let doubt in – focus on Jesus!
Much Love,
Zoe š
