God built all of civilization upon one relationship—marriage between a man and a woman. By His design, the family unit is the foundation of society. There’s a man who carries the vision, a woman who helps him unpack the vision. Children are an added gift, a blessing of the Lord!
At creation, God fashioned the male and female. The only marriage relationship that God endorses in Scripture is the union between a man and a woman. A man separates himself from his parents to be joined to a wife, and the two become one flesh.
“But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; and they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.”
Mark 10:6-8 KJV
In recent times different types of marriages have emerged and whether or not they are right is not the question. The question is “is that how God designed it?”. Every product works best when it is functioning according to the design of the manufacturer.
Paul goes on to correlate the marriage between a man and a woman with the relationship that Christ enjoys with the church—a “great mystery” (Ephesians 5:32).
Marriage and virtue are to be respected by all
“Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” – Hebrews 13:4 KJV
Jesus calls each of us to honor one another. Wives should submit to and support their husbands . . . in the same way that they defer to Christ. Husbands must submit to and go all out in love for their wives . . . in the same way that Christ loved the church. Submitting, nourishing, cherishing, respecting, loving—are these the words that describe our relationships?
Do our marriages reflect the monumental love that compelled Jesus to lay down His life for His bride? Even if its a heterosexual marriage that does not reflect this relationship between Christ and the church then it is falling short of the design.
For sometime I’ve wondered why marriages are failing all around and I simply observed that men are not loving their wives and women are not submitting unto their husbands as unto Christ. Take note! This is the manufacturer’s design. If you’re going to be married successfully it must be according to the manufacturer’s design. Some of us choose parts of the principles that govern marriage that suits us and leave the others that aren’t very convenient for us, unfortunately it doesn’t work that way.
Decide to go by the master’s design and make sure your partner is also fully committed to this before you go ahead to get married! The one who led us into marriage will keep us fruitful in our marriages by His grace in Jesus name Amen!
